SEN. OWAN SPONSOR BILL SEEKING TO ESTABLISH POLICE ACADEMY

A bill for an Act seeking for the establishment of the Nigerian Police Academy as a degree awarding institution today July 18th passed through second reading in the floor of the upper chamber.
The bill which is sponsored by the senator representing central senatorial district if Cross River State and Chairman, senate committee on finance seeks to establish an institution of higher learning for Nigerian police which will help nurture, train and equip the officers with the requisite intellectual and combat trainings that can make them compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
Commenting on the relevance of the bill on the floor of the senate, Sen. Owan stated that "the purpose of the Bill is to establish the Nigerian Police Academy with powers to train, nurture, equip and produce globally competitive police graduates with requisite knowledge, skills, values and attitude suitable for community service and to award degrees, diploma and certificates in accordance with the highest academic standards".
The bill if passed into law and accented by the executive will bring about desired
changes and foster professionalism in the police force.
